From Los Angeles Reader - 1994 Bob Malone There's a lot going on in a Malone show, and all of it's good. He's a conservatory-trained pianist and writer, and his originals have a wry, jaundiced viewpoint that recalls the best of Tom Waits. Malone's an almost encyclopedic compendium of blues and roots piano styles, and his arranging abilities can be heard in the spread-chord harmonies his horn section plays and the dynamics that they indulge in. Calling the Malone outfit a bar band is like calling Moby Dick a book about a whale. -Kirk Silsbee
