Bob Malone
'Malone Alone'
Delta Moon; #DMR004

Finally, an opportunity for everyone to hear what there is to see about a very talented performer.

Malone’s friendship with local great Dave Nachmanoff makes the former a frequent visitor here, and if live music makes you smile, try not to miss the chance to see either, especially when they sit together.

With bushy hair and scruffy beard, Malone presents himself as a somewhat flamboyant and intimidating character, but once he starts brilliantly banging on the piano keys and belting tunes with his Randy Newman-meets-Billy Joel bravado, you realize that the top-hat image is just the tip of the iceberg.

"Malone Alone" features stripped-down versions of all of the tunes that Malone has played in the past, but the bits of conversation he has with various audience members raises this already great CD up another notch.

"This is a song I wrote about a day I spent in New York City with my ex-girlfriend. Well, I call her my ex-girlfriend, she calls me, ‘that son-of-a-bitch.’"

"I got pretty much all the details in, except for when we bought food from one of those streetcart vendor guys with an umbrella. I just couldn't find a really effective way to use the word knish in a song. It rhymes with stuff, like gefilte fish, but it just doesn't work in a song context..."
