Frequently Asked Questions

Greetings & Salutations:
First of all, I want to apologize profusely to all of you who haven't heard from me in a while. In this postcard, I will try to answer all of the most frequently asked Bob Malone questions. Here goes:
• Frequently asked question #1: "Hey, where you been lately?"
In January, I did my first ever tour of the Southwest. In addition to doing some very nice gigs, I also got to see the Grand Canyon (sans camera & Bermuda shorts, I might add). In February I opened for Maria Muldaur at the House Of Blues in Hollywood. The show went great and we drew our biggest crowd ever. A few days after that, I left for a ten city tour of Italy. I had a great time, ate some really wonderful food, met some really cool people, and expanded my Italian vocabulary beyond "Vinnie" and "Marinara" — which was pretty much all I knew before I left. I also got a whole bunch of reviews of my shows in the Italian press — I'm told they're really good. Unfortunately, they're all in Italian so I can't read them (the pictures look great, though). I am currently writing a full account of the trip and, like most of the other tour-diaries I've written, it will appear in some magazine somewhere sooner or later. I'll let you know. In the meantime, you can see it on my website along with another new story called The Muse Is A Bitch (But I Love Her). Check it out.
• Frequently asked question #2: "Yo, what's taking so long with the next CD!?"
There's going to be two CDs, so relax. One, which contains concert perennials such as “Goodbye L.A.” and “Don't Tell Me Where You’ve Been (Just Show Me What You Know),”will be out in May (really!). The other CD, which will contain newer stuff, will be out later this year. These CD's, as well as The Darkest Part of the Night, will be available at my shows, on my new & improved website (which is looking cooler than ever thanks to the efforts of Paul Schatzkin at NOMA and Buzz Burrowes, who manages my homepage — thanks guys!) and wherever fine records are sold nationwide. You can also order by calling 1-800-BUY-MY-CD.
• Frequently asked question #3: "Ya got any gigs coming up?"
In addition to the shows listed on the back of this postcard, in May I will be doing the RETURN OF THE SON OF CRAWL ACROSS TEXAS TOUR '98, which will be taking me across the Southwest, through Texas to the Kerrville Folk Festival and back again. I can also tell you that I'll be back in the Northeast this summer to play at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in NY State, as well as in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, & New York City. There will be plenty of other stuff between now and then — I'll keep you posted. I'll probably be returning to Italy in the fall. Also, a possible tour from L.A. to Key West and back is being planned for November (the only explanation I can offer for that insanity is: "because it's there"). Then, before we know it, it will be 1999, and I can look back on the events of the previous year and wonder (as I always do): "what the hell was I thinking?!"
• Frequently asked question #4: "So, what else is going on?"
This month's issue of Performing Songwriter Magazine contains an interview with me (I haven't seen it yet, so I'm hoping I didn't say anything stupid). Caught Up In Christmas, a song from The Darkest Part Of The Night, has been picked up by Songcastle Music Publishing for usages in movies and t.v. shows, etc. I was voted one of the 100 Best Unsigned Artists in L.A. by Music Connection Magazine for the fourth year in a row. Also, this month marks the one-year anniversary of my distribution deal with Chartmaker Records (who currently have four artists on the Gavin Jazz Charts).
• Frequently asked question #5: "Hey man, like, can you play something by the Doors?"
No.
Love, Bob
