July 1998
The “Oy, It’s Humid!” Tour

Everybody:

I’m right in the middle of my Oy, it’s Humid! Tour '98 here on the East Coast and it’s been great so far. I just finished a weekend playing the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in NY State, where I played the mainstage with my band and was in the round with John Gorka and Greg Brown. Also, I jammed with the Laura Love Band. I am a fan of all these people and it was a real privilege to share the stage with them. In addition to that gig and some other cool ones, there's been the usual gamut of crisises like promoters running off with my money, soundmen not showing up, and harrowingly close and uncomfortable sleeping arrange-ments. In other words: nothing out of the ordinary.

Just a quick word about the dates on this calendar:

The shows at The Hermosa Steak-Out and Margaritaville will be rare multi-set, all night type affairs – you will hear some stuff you don’t normally hear us play. At The Palms in Davis, I’ll be opening for my good friend Dave Nachmanoff (who subbed for Renee Safier on backup vocals for me this year at Falcon Ridge – I couldn't get him to put on a dress, however). It's his CD release party and in addition to being the opening act, I'll also be playing piano and accordion in Dave's band. It should be a very fun evening. Down at the San Diego Street Scene, I'm pretty sure I'll be the only guy from New Jersey on the Louisiana Heritage Stage…there wasn't a Jersey City Heritage Stage or a Bayonne Heritage Stage, so I had to make do. Stranger things have happened (I think). We'll be on right before the Wild Tchapachoulas – you don't want to miss that!Last (but not quite least), we'll be opening for Eric Burdon of The Animals at Scruffy O'Shea's in September. That show will sell out for sure so get tickets while you can.

Love, Bob
