Welcome To The Neighborhood

“I love this neighborhood. Some of these broads are wearing my salary.”
- Denis Leary
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury:
So I just moved myself and the Worldwide Headquarters of Delta Moon Records to West Hollywood. It’s a really nice part of town and all, but it will take some getting used to. I mean, lets face it, I may live in this neighborhood now, but that doesn’t mean I can afford to buy anything in it. I’m walking around today and I see this store that sells nothing but $1,000 pens. Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t believe there’s a market for crap like this. I’m sure the pens are very nice, but you could buy a lifetime supply of Bics with that money and still have enough left over for a plane ticket to Aruba. What's the point? Besides, everyone knows that if you buy a pen that expensive, you are absolutely guaranteed to lose it. Just like those expensive sunglasses you used to have.
It’s been a busy summer. After a July show at B.B. King’s Blues Club, I played for the KLON Blues Caravan at Jack’s Sugar Shack in Hollywood and then set off for the East Coast. Starting in New Jersey, I did 7 radio interviews in 5 days in 6 states with the fabulous Malonettes (Renee Safier & Karen Nash) singing background vocals (Renee & I also got in some tunes from our jazz CD). In addition to that, I also found time to open for Hot Club of Cowtown at Bodles Opera House in Chester, NY, and play a set at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY. My drummer, Jake Jacobs, as well as a rented horn section from Boston also joined us for that one. After that, I spent a wonderful (if somewhat humid) evening with my friend Ann Sternberg (of the Rock & Roots radio show) at her apartment on the Upper West Side. I smoked a good cigar on the 19th floor balcony and watched the sun set on Manhattan, while Ann and I discussed the meaning of life, love and why it costs so much to park in New York. Then it was back to L.A. to open for Robbie Fulks at Jack’s Sugar Shack.
Please note the new address on the front of this card, and remember what the right Reverend Billy C. Wirtz told me once:
“Dante didn't know a damn thing about hell!”
Love, Bob
